AT HOME NEWBORN FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION IN HERTFORD, HERTFORDSHIRE

I’m delighted to share some images from a fun Newborn photography session in Hertford, Hertfordshire. It was lovely to see how the new arrival fitted into the family dynamic, with a curious big brother and a protective family pet in the mix. Read on to hear more about our morning together. I hope you enjoy the pictures!

Hi! I’m Sarah, the creator behind Purple Kite Photography.

As a mum of two, I know how important it is to capture those special moments, so you can relive them time and again as the memories fade.

I began my photography journey when I had my first child, taking thousands of photos to try and preserve their perfect tininess forever. Pretty soon I was taking photos of my friends' children too, and it naturally evolved into a business. And I've never looked back!

Since then, it has been my privilege to photograph families, events and special occasions as well as weddings. I feel so lucky to call this work!

I hate having my own photo taken, so I totally get it when people say they feel awkward in front of the camera, but it is my job to put you at ease and get great results.

AT HOME WITH THE NEWEST ADDITION TO THE FAMILY

The beauty of having a newborn shoot in your own home, means that everyone is relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings, and older siblings enjoy the reassurance of having their own familiar space to play in. There is food, drink and changes of clothes to hand too if required. This gorgeous little one was just 16 days old, but I swear those are real smiles he's giving his Daddy!

SIBLING LOVE

Adjusting to life with a sibling can be tricky for older children - life as they know it changes forever. Being at home means that they can choose how much they want to participate and have the safety of their own room to retreat to if needed and can gain confidence to join in when they're ready.

PLAYING AT HOME, LITTLE MOMENTS

Capturing children doing ordinary every day activities is a great way to get them to relax and those little moments will also make great memories of their favourite toys, games - or breakfast cereals! - as they grow up. It's also nice to have a few little moments with older children during a newborn shoot, as they can sometimes feel a little left out in those crazy early days of adjusting to the constant demands a baby places on parents' time.

INCLUDING THE FAMILY PET IN THE PHOTO SESSION

A beloved furry friend is as much a part of the family as everyone else. The family dog wasn't going to be left out of the fun! It was a delight to watch her tenderly interact with the newest family member, standing protectively over the sleeping baby, seemingly aware how vulnerable and precious he is.
